David Michie RSA RGI



Biography:

Born in St. Raphael, France, the son of ANNE REDPATH, he studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1947-53 under the painter, William Gillies. He won a travelling scholarship to Italy in 1953-4, returning to teach at Edinburgh College of Art, becoming head of drawing and painting from 1982-90. He is an elected member of the Royal Scottish Academy, The Royal Glasgow Institute and President of the Society of Scottish Artists.

From the wealth of material found in his sketchbooks, Michie creates his paintings - gardens, Moorish architectural detail and jazz parades - observing nature and humanity with panache and originality. His paintings are held in the collection of H.M The Queen, The Scottish Arts Council, The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and other major public collections of Scottish art.
