Andrew Gifford brings his project 'Transmission' to the 2006 London Art Fair which investigates the properties of the 'Ganzfeld Effect', a near-halluciantory state first described by arctic explorers who experienced snow-blindness after long hours focused on nothing but a white expanse. Upon further research in the 1930's, scientists began to understand that when our eyes gaze into a featureless field of vision, the mind quickly enters a profoundly altered state which has often been described as 'instant meditation'. In Andrew's installation, participants will be invited to witness the Ganzfeld effect firsthand through a series of specially designed projections seen within the hollow of a ball designed to both relax and stimulate the mind. While the experience is completely harmless, it should be warned that the Ganzfeld ball will contain a flashing stroboscopic light, so some visitors may not be able to participate in the experience.
